How to store the adhesive

Feb 05, 2022

Adhesives are mostly made of high-molecular substances as soil, and some need to add a certain solvent, relying on chemical reaction or physical action to achieve curing, which will occur slowly during the storage process of the adhesive. Adhesives have a certain shelf life, which is related to storage conditions such as humidity, temperature, ventilation, etc. In order to ensure that the performance of the adhesive remains basically unchanged for the specified period, it is necessary to pay close attention to the method of storage of the adhesive. For different types of adhesives, the storage conditions are also different because of their different properties.

The precautions for the storage of several commonly used adhesives are briefly introduced as follows;

Epoxy resin adhesives should be stored in a ventilated, dry, cool, room temperature environment for a period of six months to one year.

The phenolic resin adhesive should be stored in a closed container in a cool place away from fire for a period of six months to one year.

The polyisocyanate glue should be put into a brown bottle, and stored in a low temperature away from light. Metal containers, rubber and cork stoppers should not be used. And strictly prevent moisture from entering, otherwise polymerization and deterioration will occur; the prepolymer polyurethane adhesive should not be stored at low temperature to prevent condensation. The storage period of component A is 2 years. The period of contact with active hydrogen substances is six months to one year.

The storage temperature of urea-formaldehyde resin adhesive should be as low as possible. If 5% methanol is added, the storage stability is improved.

Containers with neoprene adhesive have better airtightness. Store at room temperature, not too high (>30℃) or too low (<5℃), keep away from fire. Storage period is 3-6 months.

a-Cyanoacrylate adhesives should be stored in a sealed, low temperature, dry, dark, cool place for 1 year. Glass bottles have a longer shelf life than plastic bottles.

The anaerobic adhesive should be stored in a cool, dark place with a storage period of half a year. The material of the packaging container should be polyethylene, and iron containers should not be used, and should not be filled, so as to avoid solid isolation from the air and polymerization deterioration.

SGA adhesive should be sealed and stored, and the two components must be isolated and placed in a cool, ventilated, low temperature, and dry place for a period of six months to one year.

Polyvinyl acetate emulsion (milk white glue) should be packaged in glass, ceramic and plastic containers. The storage temperature is 5 to 30°C. Pay attention to antifreeze. The storage period is 1 year.

Hot melt adhesives should be stored away from light, insulated, and at room temperature.

Inorganic adhesives should be sealed and stored to prevent moisture absorption from affecting use.
