Tata Chemicals' board approved an investment of ₹775 crore (approximately USD 86 million) to expand precipitated silica manufacturing capacity at its Cuddalore plant in Tamil Nadu, India. The plant currently has a capacity of 13.8 kilotonnes/year with 88% capacity utilisation. The proposed expansion will add 50 kilotonnes/year of precipitated silica capacity, aimed at catering to growing demand for specialty silica in rubber and automotive tyre industries.
Key takeaway for customers: Major capacity expansions in Asia signal strong and sustained demand growth for precipitated silica, particularly from the tire and rubber sectors. This reinforces the positive long-term market outlook.
